I am a flower freak. Sounds kinky right? It’s the color, the scent, the way they breath personality into a space. Growing up my mother always had fresh flowers in our home and I try to do the same. There is nothing better than going to the flower market and dreaming up something lovely. I happily help friends and family with arrangements for events and dinner parties. As you can tell from the photos above, I have an affinity for roses, hydrangeas, anemones and ranunculus. Finding unique branches and berries to tie into my more traditional creations always makes me happy. Here are a few of my tips for creating the perfect arrangement.
Be not afraid!: Sometimes taking chances and even making mistakes can lead to the best arrangements.
Sharpen up: Invest in a good pair of stem cutters. I know this sounds like a DUH, however I can’t tell you how many years I spent using my kitchen scissors. Once I had the right tools, everything was that much more fun.
Cut stems under water: Sounds tedious huh? This extra step really makes a difference in the life of your blooms.
Buy cheap, make fancy: You don’t have to go to the fanciest flower shop. Sometimes by best arrangements are from Giant’s finest. It’s all about how you put it together… Kind of like fashion 😉
Get creative with your vases: Vases are everywhere, if you look close enough. I scrape out old candles ( Diptiques are my favorite) use vintage tea cups and that stemless wine glass sitting there? Vase! Sometimes the best presentation is the most unexpected.
