Here it goes… No but seriously and for those that missed the En Vogue
reference, personal style is one of my favorite subjects and has been on my
mind a lot recently. The event that brought this post to fruition
involves a fashion presentation at Neimans, an honest friend and an asshole.
I’m the asshole. While sitting through said trend presentation at Neiman
Marcus, I whispered to one of my faithful friends, ‘love the Jacket but I HATE
the black and white trend’, to which she replied, you’re wearing black and
white. Turns out, she was correct and you know what, I wore black and white
the night after as well. Black ripped skinnies, a sky-high black bootie, a not
trying too hard cream silk button down and my black leather biker jacket.
A pop of creepy pineapple earrings and I was off, feeling very much like
myself and very… cool. So, I ask you, what is black and white and
contradicts herself constantly? You guessed it. I can’t contemplate how
many times I have made a fashion no no declaration. ‘ I would never wear white
pumps! Tennis shoes and jeans = death of sexy’, cut to many of these things
popping up on the runways, glossy pages, respectable pinterest boards and my
closet, looking… insanely cool. So what’s a girl to do? Whatever the
F%&$ she wants! I now embrace my one step forward, two step back
rhythm with fashion and personal style. Sure, its annoying and confusing at
times however in the end it creates something dynamic and interesting… anyone
who knows me can surely equate this pseudo synopses to a certain someone and at
the end of the day if your personal style doesn’t reflect your person… it’s
not working the way it’s supposed to, is it now?
me to use her words from 1990’s Opposites Attract.
